Things to Do

Cleveland International Film Festival

Jan. 1, 1900 | 5:00 AM

After humble beginnings in 1977, the Cleveland Film Society's International Film Festival has become a must-do in Northeast Ohio. This year's opening ceremony and gala ball is a premier social affair, marking the event's 25th anniversary. The more than 80 feature films are not to be missed, either.

Presented over 11 days, the festival also aims to educate moviegoers about the art of filmmaking. Cultural Journeys — a study of six foreign films — links decidedly different traditions under film's umbrella.

FilmForums enable festival attendees to converse with movie directors and producers, while FilmSlam is a mini-festival for high school students designed to engage teens in a discussion about the featured films' raison d'être.
