Raising Awareness

I am writing to thank and congratulate the entire staff at Cleveland Magazine on a job well done with "194" (October 2014), in which my daughter, Melissa Koppel, was featured. The entire article on all 194 people was done brilliantly and will hopefully bring awareness to the people who read it. In Hebrew, we say "kol hakavod," which means "with all respect," and that is what the staff that worked on this article deserves. It was so difficult for me to tell my daughter's story, but I felt it needed to be done to begin an important conversation about heroin use and addiction. Anyone with whom I spoke from the magazine treated me with the utmost respect and care necessary for such a delicate story to be told. Thank you for helping to get the message out.

Thank you for "Shaky Ground" (October 2014) about the Tom L. Johnson statue, which belongs where it is. The major disgrace is that the sculpture has not been conserved for years, and the city is negligent in caring for its outdoor spaces. The city needs a full-time curator or conservator to care for its public sculptures.
