Cosm is starting to build up in Downtown Cleveland.
Development | By Harrison Whittaker, NEOTrans
In Downtown Cleveland’s Gateway District, Cosm’s vertical construction is moving along — fast.
The massive “shared reality” entertainment venue, being developed as part of Bedrock’s Rock Block, would stream sports events on a nearly 100-foot, 12k-resolution LED dome.
Layout of the Site: While the development is addressed as 522 E. Prospect Ave., the building will front Huron Road, directly across from Rocket Arena.
A pedestrian plaza is planned on the north side of the building, stretching from East 4th Street to the East 6th walkway.
An 81-space surface parking lot fronting Prospect would fill the northern section of the development site.
Other Movement: At the northeast corner of Ontario Street and Huron Road, the 30,000-square-foot Meet Me Here Park is already preparing to open despite being unveiled less than four months ago.
Meanwhile, the first of Bedrock’s riverfront developments is moving closer to completion at the Cleveland Clinic Global Peak Performance Center.
On the western banks of the Cuyahoga River, the $100 million Irishtown Bend Park is making visible progress.
The Date: Visitors can expect Cosm to open by summer 2027.
Talk of the Town
Over the last decade, Cleveland has seen a declining number of children poisoned by lead, according to the Cleveland Scene. However, the number of severe cases has not changed in the past decade.
Recently, Cleveland lost a $3.3 million state grant after it was rescinded in February. Cleveland has now turned to longtime lead advocate and former City Councilwoman Rebecca Maurer to drive accountability after a funding lapse.
A major ramp closure heading into Downtown Cleveland is expected to happen later this month. The Ohio Department of Transportation will close the eastbound exit to E. 9th Street on June 29, and it will remain closed until late October.
Last year, the FBI followed up on two complaints from Cuyahoga County election officials against Black Fork Strategies before raiding the Ohio Organizing Collaborative's (OOC) Cleveland office last week, reports Signal Cleveland. Black Fork Strategies is owned by the OOC.
Four voter registrations filed by Black Fork Strategies include the names of dead voters.
With a federal judge temporarily blocking Ohio's new hemp laws that stem from Senate Bill 56, THC-infused drinks and other products are back in select companies. The blocks stem from Saucey Brew Works and nine other companies suing over the law. Those 10 companies are the only ones allowed to have the drinks.
Laila Edwards was drafted as No. 4 pick in the first round of the Professional Women's Hockey League draft on Wednesday evening by an expansion team based in San Jose, California. The new team is expected to begin play this year.
"Yeah, I'm really excited. I've only been to San Jose once, but we had the rivalry series last year. But I loved it," Edwards stated in her first professional press conference. "It was a good turnout. And I actually remember falling in love with San Jose. I only got to stay a few days, but I was telling my brother, I was like, I love it here. I could live here."
Cleveland Metroparks unveiled a new and improved Hinckley Lake for people to enjoy.
News | By Parisa Nosrati
Whether you’re lying on the sand, gliding through the water or rowing your boat, Hinckley Lake offers plenty of sun-soaked fun on its shores. Following a lake and dam rehabilitation project, the waters are once again welcoming visitors this summer.
The History: Hinckley Lake was originally dammed in 1927, and it had not been rehabilitated until 2023, when Sean McDermott, the chief planning and design officer for Cleveland Metroparks, drained the lake alongside his team.
The work began several years before draining took place.
Wildlife: When refilling the lake, McDermott noticed patterns of response from different species. He observed that most fish migrated downstream, while beavers migrated upstream.
One unexpected occurrence was a bird migration spot that developed over the two years the lake was drained.
Now that the lake is refilled, these birds will simply migrate elsewhere.
Spillway Beach Area: Cleveland Metroparks improved the area by installing new sand, a new lifeguard shack, new steps and a new walkway that goes toward the beach.

Ohio. What a state to be born and raised in. "The Mother of Presidents" is a nickname Ohio has earned for having seven U.S. presidents born in the state.
Another is the "Birthplace of Aviation" with the Wright Brothers. Soon, I think we should earn one for a role and work in helping this country get to space, from John Glenn to Artemis.
But in the end, the nickname "The Heart of It All" captures what Ohio is. Whatever piece of history it is, you can somehow, someway find a tie to Ohio. - Jaden Stambolia, Editorial Assistant
