Disc Jockeys

Shuffleboard is more than a way for your grandma to pass a Sunday afternoon. The internationally recognized sport — think curling but not on ice — has seven official clubs in Ohio. The renovated courts at Waters Park slide in to host the Akron Singles Open July 30-Aug. 1. Bob Sudomir, former president of the Ohio State Shuffleboard Association and 14-time national champion, tells us how to stick it to the competition.

EVEN THE PLAYING FIELD | Some courts aren't level, requiring more strategy, says Sudomir. "So you have to adjust your shots for the lean of the court."

PROTECT YOURSELF | Once you get a disc into a positive scoring area, try to create a buffer with your next disc. "A lot of better players like to try to knock the opponent's discs into the negative scoring area," says Sudomir.
