The Brunswick Division of Fire has partnered with the American Red Cross to provide up to three free smoke alarms to residents living in single-family homes (no income requirements).

How it works: If you need smoke alarms, call 330-273-8046 or visit the fire station at 1094 Hadcock Road and speak with an administrative assistant. Once the division  has your information, a time will be scheduled for firefighters to visit your home and install the smoke alarms provided by the American Red Cross. They will also walk you through fire safety tips and help you plan a home escape route.

Why it matters: Working smoke alarms dramatically increase your chances of escaping a fire safely. Sadly, most fatal home fires occur in homes with no working smoke alarms. “When we pull up to the scene of a fire, and everyone’s standing outside, the unsung heroes are the generous donors of the American Red Cross. Without those smoke alarms, the situation could be much different,” says Brunswick Fire Chief Greg Glauner.
