🏺 The CMA Gathers a Rococo Genius' Rarest Treasures: Only a handful of goldsmith Juste-Aurele Meissonnier's works survived 18th-century upheavals, and the Cleveland Museum of Art brings them together for the first time in Juste-Aurele Meissonnier: Rococo Goldsmith in Focus, opening Sunday. The free show pairs the museum's famed silver soup tureen, decorated with the very vegetables and animals meant to go in it, with a newly acquired gold box made for the queen of Spain and a rock crystal ewer Marie Antoinette kept in her private apartment. It runs through March 14.

🍕 Boom's Pizza Opens in Solon, Carryout Only: Chef Ben Bebenroth's pizzeria opened its newest location Thursday at 6130 Kruse Drive, its first without a dining room, with twice the oven capacity to cut down wait times. An Avon location is coming soon.

🎃 Pumpkins, Polka and Cheeseburgers in Paradise: South Euclid's free family festival, the October Feast, returns Saturday at the city's Food Truck Park with pumpkins, music, costume contests and food trucks.

Today's Trivia

Browns owner Mickey McBride’s other business interests led to what phrase, still occasionally used today to describe a football team’s practice squad?

Food & Drink: PopUp Bagels brings its “grip, rip and dip” bagels to Ohio today.

By  Douglas Trattner

The Connecticut-born bagel brand opens its first Ohio shop today at 28879 Chagrin Blvd. in Woodmere’s Eton Chagrin Boulevard, joining about 60 stores in a dozen states. Founder Adam Goldberg started it as a pandemic passion project in Westport, Connecticut, in 2020.

  • How It Works: There’s no slicing, toasting or bagel sandwiches here. Bagels come whole, in packs of 3, 6, 12 or 30, in five flavors: plain, everything, poppy seed, salt and sesame. They’re smaller, softer and lighter than a classic New York bagel, and they’re baked fresh throughout the day.

  • Bring On the Schmear: A rotating lineup of schmears comes on the side for dipping, including scallion, salted butter, hot honey butter and, for the season, pumpkin butter.

Worth Noting: The shop is carryout only, so plan to grab your bagels and go.

Talk of the Town

Visitors spent a record $7 billion in Cuyahoga County last year. The county drew 18.9 million visits in 2025, up 1.7% and outpacing both national and Ohio growth, according to Destination Cleveland. Tourism supported more than 70,400 local jobs, and visitor-generated taxes added up to the equivalent of a $1,475 benefit for every county household.

Bob "Hoolihan" Wells, a Cleveland TV legend, has died at 93. The former WJW weatherman, known for signing off with "Sunshine to ya, no matter the weather," teamed with "Big Chuck" Schodowski to take over the Friday night movie slot after Ghoulardi left in 1966, creating The Hoolihan and Big Chuck Show.

Lakewood's Mercury Music Lounge has closed. The owners of the roughly 500-capacity venue, who revived it in 2024, say a leaky roof the landlord never fixed drained their finances and led to a city order to vacate.

Cleveland's Memorial-Nottingham library branch could move closer to the lake. A plan would build a new branch near Euclid Beach Pier on land subleased from Cleveland Metroparks, with construction starting in 2028 and the current Lakeshore Boulevard building torn down afterward.

Cleveland's pay transparency law turns 1 next week. Employers with at least 15 workers have to post salary ranges and can't ask about pay history, and the city has substantiated 44 of 69 complaints so far. However, county and state employers like MetroHealth and Cleveland State fall outside its reach.

Check back Monday for the answer to today's question.

From the Editor

If you’ve been trying to eat lighter this fall, Cleveland isn’t making it easy.

In just a few weeks, we’ve told you about Magnolia Bakery’s banana pudding at Legacy Village, a new La Pecora slice shop on Larchmere, Barry Bagels in Ohio City, Star of India Garden at Van Aken, Boom’s Pizza in Solon and now PopUp Bagels in Woodmere.

Still to come: Moxie at Legacy Village on Monday, Dante Boccuzzi’s Casa Nostra Downtown, Sourwood’s Southern fare in Lakewood, “Mexipino” plates at Mestizo in AsiaTown and Good Company’s move to Little Italy.

That’s a lot of carbs and a lot of reasons to get out and eat. Which one are you trying first?
