Queso Con Loroco Pupusa, $2 | Pupuseria Katarina

At Pupuseria Katarina you can get a traditional pupusa — a handmade corn tortilla — filled with your choice of ingredients. But for a true cultural experience, order the queso con loroco. "The loroco is a very special edible flower from El Salvador that is used in cooking," says owner Deysi Fuentes. Joined with mozzarella cheese inside the pupusa, it receives a quick char on the griddle for a taste that's akin to a cheesy spinach corn flour quesadilla. "We grew up on this food in El Salvador," says Fuentes. "Customers really enjoy it, because they say it's so unique."
