Keepers of the Light

History buff? You'll love living — rent-free — for a week in the 1800s, as docent for Pottawatomie Lighthouse in Wisconsin's Door County. After waking up in the charming, recently restored keeper's cottage, watch white pelicans fish on sparkling Lake Michigan, or hike to the site of an ancient village. Fifteen-minute tours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and by late afternoon, Rock Island is yours.
