Holiday Tradition 13 Years Running
The Great Lakes Theater Festival kicks off its 13th annual production of Charles Dickens' familiar but not faded story, A Christmas Carol on Thursday Nov. 30. The play runs through Dec. 23.
This year's show is a play within a play, in which the ficitious Cleaveland family gathers to read Dickens' book. As Mrs. Cleaveland tells the story, her youngest child, William, imagines the characters, and they come to life on stage.
Several local actors play key roles, such as Scott Plate as the Ghost of Christmas Present. Shelley Butler directs the play. Ticket prices range from $5 to $42 and show times vary. For more information, click to www.greatlakestheater.org.
Picasso's Studio Hits Cleveland
While "Guernica," perhaps Pablo Picasso's most recognizable piece, is not on display at the Cleveland Museum of Art's current exhibit, Picasso: The Artist's Studio, its precursors and contemporaries are.
The Sculptor from 1931 and Palette, Candlestick, and Head of Minotaur, a work from 1938, hearken Guernica's form, a decidedly different form than Picasso's early works.
In all, around 45 pieces comprise the Picasso exhibit at the museum of art chronicling the evolution of his career, from protraiture to cubism. The display runs through Jan. 6, 2002, and tickets are $7 for adults, $6 for seniors and $5 for students ages 13 to 18.
