Cinderella Story

No fairy godmother appears in the Cleveland Opera version of Cinderella, but the tale still retains its charm. In performing Gioacchiono Rossini's composition, the Cleveland Opera company premieres the popular story, with Robert Orth and Dorothy Danner, both from The Barber of Seville, headlining.

The performances — Feb. 22 and 23 at 8 p.m. and Feb. 24 at 2 p.m. — will be sung in Italian with English subtitles projected on a big screen. For more information, click to www.clevelandopera.org.

Arts Benefits

Ohio Ballet's annual "Standing Room Only" benefit takes place Feb. 22 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Shoreby Club in Bratenahl. This year's theme is Abracadabra!, with magicians and fortune tellers providing the night's entertainment. Buddy Griebel and his ensemble also will provide music.

Ticket prices range from $125 to $250 and all proceeds benefit Ohio Ballet. Call (216) 861-5545 or (330) 972-7900 for more information.

Cleveland's Baroque Orchestra — also known as Apollo's Fire — hosts a benefit this weekend, Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the English Oak Room in Tower City Center. First Waltz 2002 includes waltz workshops, dinner, a Victorian setting and hours of dancing.

Tickets range from $125 to $200. Proceeds will benefit the orchestra's outreach programs, concerts and national tour schedule.

Jewel of the Ganges

Diamonds, gold, emeralds, sapphires and rubies adorn hundreds of works that will be on display at the Cleveland Museum of Art as part of the Jeweled Arts of India exhibition beginning Feb. 24 and running through May 19.

Indian and Islamic pieces from the 17th Century comprise the bulk of the display, with the "Ruby Dagger" encrusted with more than 2,400 gems as the must-see item.

Tickets to the exhibit cost $12, and reservations are strongly recommended. To purchase tickets or for more information on the exhibit, click to www.clevelandart.org.
