Tennis in the Land organizers have announced that the annual pro tennis tournament will not return this summer.
Tennis in the Land and Topnotch Events, the talent management group behind the event, released an email announcement stating that the WTA 250 event — which has taken place on temporary courts in Cleveland's West Bank of the Flats for the past five years — will be put on pause in 2026. They say it's not due to a lack of support, but instead because they require a permanent facility for the event.
"Over the past five years, Tennis in the Land operated as a temporary, pop-up venue — transforming parking lots into a unique urban stadium that showcased Cleveland to millions of fans around the world," the email announcement states. "Despite significant annual investment, continuing to build and dismantle the venue each year is no longer economically sustainable without a permanent tennis facility and supporting infrastructure."
Organizers estimated that Tennis in the Land created more than $10 million in economic impact to Cleveland.
While Tennis in the Land won't return in 2026, its team says it's working with stakeholders and partners to create a permanent facility for future events, which could also be used in the local tennis scene year-round.
"We remain dedicated to bringing outdoor pro tennis to Cleveland each summer, and knowing there's an audience who dedicated themselves to supporting it will keep us on the path to do so," the email announcement states.
