Got five bucks? Then you've got all you need to become a card-carrying member of the Post 1 Polish Veterans Alliance. Drop into this Tremont dive — better known to regulars simply as Post 1 — and you'll get a greeting that would make even Norm from Cheers feel at home. Established in 1936 as the first Polish Veterans Alliance in Cleveland, this townie watering hole offers a low-key, friendly and inexpensive drinking alternative when you're ready to throw a couple back. While some bars offer lavish bottle service, crowded dance floors or fancy cocktails, Post 1 is by no means one of them. "It is the local bar," says bar manager Carlos Polichuk. "For it to be considered the dive of the neighborhood, I'm so happy with that." The $5-per-year membership won't buy you any special privileges, but the daily $2 Fireball shots and $1 happy hour drafts are enough to convince us to annually invest our Lincoln. Pro tip: It's cash only, so stop at an ATM before you get your Polish on. 2234 Professor Ave., Cleveland, 216-860-1447
