Sure, we want our lamps to well, light things — but who says we can’t pair a little kitsch with function? Thanks to Whiskertin Lighting, we read by a double-ended Darth Wall Sconce ($100), a lightsaber made from two 30-watt tube-style Edison bulbs fused together with a gas pipe arm. Whiskertin repurposes objects from spiral ductwork to skateboards into industrial-chic light fixtures, often with a dash of pop culture flair. The skateboards are the ultimate encapsulation of Whiskertin’s oddball aesthetic: four light bulbs replace the wheels on boards lacquered with Chewbacca or Sonic the Hedgehog ($180 each). They’re the bright idea of Akron’s Aaron Novak and Glenn Miller, who started Whiskertin after repurposing some scrap metal into a light fixture and posting the finished product on social media. “If we are at a festival, no one else has anything like us,” says Novak. “We love that everything we make is a conversation piece.” 1145 No. 306 S.
