Craft beer has moved far beyond the basics, and no one knows that better than Rick Welo, self-described resident beer geek at Red Wine & Brew’s Chesterland location. What’s he digging on right now? Out of the more than 2,500 beer selections at the store, he’s all about the hazy IPAs.
“This New England IPA, it’s so thick and juicy — all the things IPA lovers are looking for,” he says of the growing trend, recommending Platform Beer Co.’s introduction of
rotating, seasonal IPAs like Bucket of Gloves and Saucy Brew Works’ Love You, Bye, both
local breweries.
Visit Welo at the newly remodeled Chesterland location (the original Red Wine & Brew) for 35 coolers filled with beer plus a growler station and weekly tastings (and in the fall there are plans for a new restaurant next door). In Mentor, you’ll find a similar selection with a restaurant that routinely hosts three- to four-course beer dinners. 8099 Mayfield Road, Chesterland; 440-729-7376; 9620 Old Johnnycake Ridge Road, Mentor, 440-210-0024, redwineandbrew.us
