Heinz Poll Summer Dance Festival
A lush garden cemetery becomes the stage for the closing performance of the Heinz Poll Summer Dance Festival that celebrates the memory of the founding artistic director of the Ohio Ballet. See Brooklyn-based African-American dance troupe, Urban Bush Women, perform Walking with ‘Trane to the jazz of John Coltrane Aug. 11 and 12. Kiddies can enjoy a special interactive children’s program on the festival stage produced by the University of Akron’s Dance Institute. The Cleveland Flea
The huge market has gotten a tasty expansion this summer with the addition of a Food Flea on Sundays. The Aug. 13 staycation-themed flea has a backyard patio vibe with musicians playing, cornhole, volleyball, badminton, a bar, and of course, tons of yummy food vendors from ice cream to tacos to pierogies. Come Aug. 12 for the regular market lineup with new, handmade and vintage goodies from Reclaimed State of Mind, the Style Foundry, Cleveland Street Glass and more. Feast of the Assumption
For 119 years, Cleveland’s Little Italy has bustled in August to honor the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin. The street party packs in crowds for music and carnival rides, but it also serves as a taste of Little Italy with vendors serving up cannolis, pizza and cavatelli. But remember the reason for party with a candlelight procession down Mayfield Road at 9:30 p.m. Aug. 15 followed by fireworks in Tony Brush Park.
