Easy Eye Sound's Tell Everybody!: 21st Century Juke Joint Blues will feature influential blues artists such as Robert Finley, R.L. Boyce and Leo "Bud" Welch, and newcomers like Moonrisers, Gabe Carter and Nat Myers. And, within that mix, it'll showcase some Cleveland stars, too.
Tell Everybody! centers on some Northeast Ohio musicians who affected Auerbach's own musical upbringing while he grew up in Akron. The album will include performances by the late Glenn Schwartz, who passed away in 2018, and fellow James Gang member Joe Walsh. Walsh and Auerbach's band The Arcs support Schwartz, who mentored both Auerbach and Walsh, on a reinvention of the song "Daughter of Zion" from Schwartz's All Saved Freak Band. The compilation will also feature Schwartz's song "Collinwood Fire."
“Glenn was my biggest rock ‘n’ roll inspiration," Auerbach said in a 2019 Cleveland Magazine interview. "I saw him at Hoopples when I was 18 and things were never the same for me. There would be no Black Keys without Glenn Schwartz, that’s for sure. I really miss him. He was a sweet man; he loved the Lord and loved music so much. I really respected his conviction.”
All performers on the album were recorded at Easy Eye Sound in Nashville. The compilation is available for preorder at Easy Eye Sound's website, store.easyeyesound.com.
