Mike and Colleen Miller opened the Music Box Supper Club in August 2014. Their tireless work, devoted supporters and highly valued staff have helped the club bloom into one of the most successful venues in the area.
Beginning as a live concert venue in the Flats of Downtown Cleveland, their priority was to get the word out. “Cleveland already had many good options for event centers and concert venues. We had to climb to the rooftop and yell pretty loudly.” Miller says.
Once they gathered a strong support system, the task of gaining the club’s awareness was now in the hands of its visitors. “As soon as our audience began to grow, they helped us spread the word and have continued to do so. Having that size following has allowed us to try some things we couldn't do in the beginning, be creative, and have our loyal following tell us if we're on the right track.”
The Music Box currently wears many hats. In addition to live music, the club hosts a wide range of entertainment that includes history stories, wine-tasting parties and magicians. Other private events such as weddings and fundraisers also take place at the venue.
Having all these different events taking place, the need for a great staff is essential, and Miller credits them for the club’s accomplishments.
“The biggest reason for our success would definitely be our staff. They work hard to seamlessly execute our concerts and private events while providing an outstanding customer experience.”
Since the club’s debut, they have hosted more than 400 weddings and 4,000 concerts. Running an in-house restaurant along with live performances on two different stages for a decade is no easy mission, so the club’s success deserves to be celebrated, which it is.
To embrace the significant milestone, a month-long series of concerts and events will begin on August 1 at the Music Box Supper Club, kicking off with The Land’s musical ensemble, Nitebridge, followed by tributes to Frank Sinatra, Styx, Cream, Elvis, Chicago and Fleetwood Mac to go along with several original artists and groups.
The future is always a question in business, but Miller is focused on the present. “We love being part of what’s happening right now. We see the whole region working together better than ever, and it’s raising the quality of life for everyone. We just want to continue to be part of that.”
