Stepping foot into Gordon King’s home is like stepping into a baseball museum. Gloves and mitts line the floor of his Parma apartment, where he also runs A1 Glove Repair.
Whether he needs to completely refurbish a 1907 Spalding glove or repair a mitt for a child, no job is too small. The process could take a few days or a few weeks depending on the condition and the selected treatment such as taking apart and reassembling gloves and treating each one with his all-natural, homemade secret formula.
He’s worked on gloves for customers across the country from New Jersey to California and even receives repair referrals from glove companies SSK, Akadema and Rawlings.
“I love what I do very much,” says King. “I love to make people’s day by giving their glove back. It is not unusual for me to do a job on somebody’s glove, and they come back to get it and they go, ‘Oh sorry that’s not my glove.’ ” 6134 Stumph Road, Suite 308, Parma, 440-655-2674, a1gloverepair.com
