Chicago Via the Cinematheque
The Cleveland Institute of Art's Cinematheque is all about bringing old films to the comfort of your living room, and we're digging into a special restored version of the 1927 American film Chicago through an online exclusive on its website. This original silent version was thought to be lost for years and was later turned into a Broadway hit, eventually becoming the 2002 musical film of the same name. Film buffs will love this authentic viewing of the classic, which was a big influence on cinema and produced by Cecil B. DeMille. The story follows a wife in the Jazz Age played by Phyllis Haver, who ends up using a scandalous murder case as a way to boost her own career. The film will be available to stream through Aug. 27. $10, All day, cia.edu
CouchRockr
Highland Square's annual PorchRockr Festival is going virtual this year. Instead of showing up in person to watch bands jam on people's porches in the Akron neighborhood, the annual festival's organizers are hosting a virtual event featuring 12 local acts, including Benny Lava, the Bizzaros, Bright Lights and many others. Artists will perform at different locations around Highland Square, and performances will be released in a series of six videos throughout the day on the event's Facebook page. There’s more than just music to enjoy: The all-day event starts with an 11 a.m. yoga class on Zoom and a virtual dance party featuring DJ Vinny G. Keep your laptop open and enjoy some local jams, no matter where you are. Free, Aug. 15, All day, facebook.com/events
