Cleveland Makers: Seeker Woodworks' Wooden Bowls Are Artful Pieces You'll Need Around The House

If you ever buy a bowl from Justin Seeker, you have YouTube to thank. With his band Stems unable to practice last year, Seeker looked for a new hobby, eventually settling upon woodworking after stumbling down a YouTube rabbit hole of woodworking videos. From there, he bought a lathe and began woodworking at his home in December 2020. Four months later, Seeker unveiled his collection of bowls online and at Hazel Tree Design Studio in Akron.

As a part of the collection, Seeker has everything from a larger salad bowl ($169) to a smaller side dish ($25). “They’re art that can also be a utility,” he says. Seeker finds material in unlikely places, like when he made a bowl for himself using a tree branch that fell on his house last year. “I’ve told my neighbors that if a tree ever falls down in their yard that they should save a branch and I’ll make them a bowl,” he says.

While Seeker is currently just doing bowls, he’s excited to see what the future holds. “I’m just starting, but I’d love to have a classroom setting in a couple years where I can teach,” he says. instagram.com/seekerwoodworks
