Eastern Conference Finals preview.

Sports | By Jaden Stambolia

The Cleveland Cavaliers are facing a familiar opponent in the Eastern Conference Finals with the New York Knicks. The Cavs faced the big-market team in the first round of the 2022-23 playoffs, and Cleveland was quickly eliminated in five games.

The Stars: Being in New York the Knicks have some star power in Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby and Karl-Anthony Towns.

Match Up: Towns can throw a wretch into the Cavs lineup with his ability to shoot from the perimeter. The question is, will Cavs head coch Kenny Atkinson want to have both Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen on the floor away from the hoop?

Familiar Faces: Just like last playoff series, the Cavs are facing an old head coach in Mike Brown. Brown is in his first year helming the Knicks.

  • Former Cavs guard Jordan Clarkson is also on the Knicks roster.

Where to Watch: The Knicks have home-court advantage in this series. The first game tips off at Madison Square Garden today at 8 p.m., with the game airing on ESPN. All the games have 8 p.m. tip-off times.

  • Game 2 (May 21) and Game 4 (May 25) are on ESPN.

  • Game 3 (May 23) is on ABC.

  • If the series goes futher than four games, Games 5, 6 and 7 will air on ESPN.

Talk of the Town

The Cleveland Fire Department is facing allegations of racist hazing after the death of cadet Symeon Williams Sr. Cleveland City Council President Blaine Griffin and Councilman Mike Polensek are demanding a full and transparent investigation into the Williams' death.

Cleveland and Brook Park have reached an agreement on Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. The proposed agreement ends nine years of litigation and will result in 34 acres of land being returned to Brook Park, thereby terminating Cleveland's requirement to purchase additional property. It also provides guaranteed final payments of $650,000 to Brook Park over the next 33 years.

  • In the agreement, Cleveland will solely receive all income and admission tax from the I-X Center.

Cleveland Asian Festival was a hit this year, to the point that it became overcrowded and was shut down by the Fire Marshall. Festival leaders thanked everyone for their support and are looking forward to next year's festival.

The Capitol Theatre is changing operators with Atlanta-based Arthosue Management taking over at the end of July. Cleveland Cinemas has operated since 2009, when it was reopened. The movie spot recently received a $50,000 grant for a new digital projector.

Chef Chris Cook talks about his favorite local bites.

Food & Drink | By Christina Rufo

Geneva native Chris Cook found his footing in the kitchen early in life and later learned the ropes in Northeast Ohio restaurants. Largely self-taught, the chef built his skills through hands-on experience and mentorship. A stint in tour catering across the country, cooking for acts like The Weekend and Dierks Bentley, further expanded his range.

Today, that adaptability defines his work at The Farmer’s Rail and Amelia’s, both in Cuyahoga Falls.

Coastal Cocktails: When I can get my siblings together, we’ll head out to Portage Lakes and bounce between a few spots along the water. It’s all about the sunshine, live music and laid-back, on-the-water energy. Give me a daiquiri or margarita, or a wine slushie from Old Firehouse Winery in Geneva, and I’m set.
