New housing options are on the horizon throughout Lakewood, as several large-scale residential developments near completion. Together, these projects will introduce hundreds of new apartments and townhomes, including a number of affordable units, helping to meet demand and offer more choices for people seeking to live in the city.

Here’s a look at what’s coming:

Westline Apartments on Detroit Avenue, the former Barry Buick lot, will feature 124 one-bedroom and two-bedroom units with amenities including a fitness center, bike storage, a resident lounge, garage parking and ground-floor retail space.

Lakewood Common, located on the former Lakewood Hospital site, will bring 293 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, along with retail space, parking and an outdoor plaza for community programming.

The View on Detroit East will add 120 studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units, complete with a fitness facility, bike storage, a resident lounge and parking.

Smaller-scale developments are also in progress. Thoreau Place on Thoreau Road will include 10 townhomes and one single-family home, while Shady Cove on Lake Avenue will offer 16 townhomes with garages and rooftop views of Lake Erie.

“The addition of these residential developments will expand housing options for current and future residents while strengthening our local economy by bringing more customers to our small businesses,” says Director of Planning and Development Angela Byington.

While many of these developments are still under construction, move-in at Westline began this spring, with leasing of other properties to follow.
