When I meet people who are visiting Lakewood for the first time, I consistently hear the same phrases: welcoming, unique, supportive, diverse, a strong sense of community. Lakewood business owners strive to help each other, knowing that if one is elevated, the entire community is elevated. We are better together than going alone.

As I consider this, one thing remains at the heart of these sentiments about our community: the small businesses that bring our neighborhoods to life. From locally owned shops and restaurants to service providers, makers and entrepreneurs, these businesses do far more than provide goods and services — they create the character, energy and personal connections that make our community unique.

Every time you choose to shop local, dine local or support a small business, you are making a direct investment in our community. Local businesses create jobs, sponsor youth programs and community events, support charitable causes and help keep our small business districts vibrant and welcoming. The dollars spent locally have a ripple effect, circulating back into the community and helping strengthen the local economy for everyone.

We are also inspired by the creativity and vision we see throughout our community as older buildings and spaces are transformed into something new. Historic storefronts, vacant properties and longtime landmarks are being thoughtfully renovated and repurposed into thriving businesses, gathering spaces and destinations. These projects preserve the character and history of our community while creating fresh opportunities for economic growth and innovation.

Equally important are the people behind these businesses — the owners and entrepreneurs who are not only investing in their companies, but also investing in our community as residents, volunteers, mentors and civic leaders. They coach little league teams, serve on nonprofit boards, organize neighborhood events and work every day to make this a place where families and businesses can thrive together.

The Chamber is proud to champion these businesses and the individuals who help shape our community’s future. We encourage everyone to continue exploring local shops, supporting independent businesses, attending community events and celebrating the entrepreneurs and leaders who make our city special.

Together, we continue to build a strong local economy and community, making Lakewood a great place to thrive!
