Kate Fortney Horne puts the care that only a mother could into running Babycakes Children’s Boutique. As a mom of two, Fortney Horne dedicates her time to providing new moms with the safest and best quality baby clothes and gifts. “Everything I pick out for the store I would feel comfortable using at home,” she says.

After opening her first shop, Lovely Paperie and Gifts, in Rocky River in 2014, customers kept flocking to the baby items in stock. “There was nowhere near that people could find high-quality baby gifts, something that was made of the right materials and softest fabric, something that you’d want to put your child in,” Fortney Horne says. So she opened Babycakes in the same spot in 2017 as a specialty store selling beautiful, memorable clothing, swaddles, blankets, toys and books and relocated Lovely down the street.

“People are coming in and taking the time to touch, feel and learn about the products they’re buying,” she says. “They want something that will be passed down from generation to generation.”

An Item We Love: Getting your new baby swaddled is easy with the Stretch Chenille Dreampod ($55), a blanket equipped with Velcro straps.
