Three Local Studios That Make Raw Talent Sizzle

Bad Racket, Bulkley House Creative Space and XIV Productions are helping the sounds of local musicians — and some more prominent acts — come alive.

 Bad Racket 
With two isolation rooms connected to the 1,100-square-foot live room, this studio’s set-up puts the entire band in one space and prevents a missed note from ruining the whole take. “It’s the most natural way for musicians to perform,” says studio manager Henri Rapp. “That’s how they practice; that’s how they play shows.” Rates: $50 per hour Who you’ve heard: Runaway Brother, Nike ads featuring LeBron James, campaign spots for former state Sen.  Bulkley House Creative SpaceI
Housed in an 1876 Victorian brownstone with views of downtown’s skyline from its London Room, Bulkley House is more than a recording studio. With an in-house photography studio and graphic design staff, it’s a one-stop shop for any artist. “We try to create an environment where [artists] can network across different directions,” says co-owner Brandon Evans-Mason. XIV Productions 
Connected to the Agora Theatre & Ballroom, XIV Productions has only been open since November, but it’s aiming for a high note. Record in Studio A, where DJ Alan Freed gave rock ‘n’ roll its name. “We’re going to change the way people view Cleveland,” says owner Mason Jalloway. “We’re going to change the way people view music from Cleveland.” Rates: $35 for B room and $45 for A room, per hour Who you’ve heard: The O’Jays, Sylvan Lacue, Rick Ross, Migos, Gucci Mane B-Side: Mix, master and shoot a music video, too.
