An inclusive play space, We Rock the Spectrum Kids Gym Cleveland knows how to throw a birthday party that brings everyone together. 

“We create a safe space for the special needs population, but we are open for neurotypical kids as well, so they can play alongside and learn about each other's differences,” says Alexandra Pletz, owner of the international franchise’s Cleveland area location in Mayfield Village. 

Pletz brought the franchise to Cleveland in 2013 after noticing a gap in adaptive play areas.

“I’m a pediatric occupational therapist, and I was working with a lot of families struggling to find an enclosed space where kids could get their sensory needs met, so when I came across the franchise on TikTok, it seemed like a perfect fit,” Pletz says. 

“There’s lots of equipment that allows the children to move in a way that’s regulating for them,” Pletz says. 

Weekends at the gym typically mean birthday parties are in full swing. The gym’s Rock Star Unique package is intended to be less stimulating, including things like low-volume or no music, headphones, fidget toys and dimmed lighting, and is tailored to each child’s interests.

“We’ve done a lot of parties at this point, and we’ve got it down to a science,” Pletz says. “But we also keep everything nice and flexible.”

**The gym includes vestibular equipment like swings and a zipline, proprioceptive equipment that provides deep pressures, crash pads, a trampoline and a rock wall, as well as a calming room, an infant and toddler area and a glow room with black lights and neon glow tape.
