Best Bike Shop: Mountain Road Cycles
“Some people say they want a mountain bike or a Road bike. But after we talk, it is our job to help them as an experience in to their best cycling needs. I want people to own a bike that is going to do what they want it to do and that is comfortable for them,” says Nicole Loudin, manager of Mountain Road Cycles with shops in Chagrin Falls and Chardon.
Loudin helps customers determine the most appropriate style of bike for them, and offers suggestions for such elements as the frame, drivetrain or gear ratio. That’s “the technical, nerdy stuff that most people don’t care about unless they care about it,” she explains.
Finding the best bike for every member of the family is not a problem at the more than 22-year-old business. A wide selection of quality mountain bikes, road bikes, hybrids and kids’ bicycles, plus accessories, parts and maintenance products are available.
Mountain bikers tend to know their favorite trails in Northeast Ohio. But for those road and hybrid bicyclists looking for great places to ride, Loudin has suggestions. Number one is Maple Highlands Trail, a 21-mile-long ride in Geauga County from Chardon to Middlefield. Also, both parts of the new, multi-use Solon to Chagrin Falls Trail are now complete, with bridges to be finished this year. Loudin particularly likes this four-mile opportunity because of its convenient public restrooms and parking.
Her third suggestion is the 101-mile-long Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath Trail from Downtown Cleveland to New Philadelphia.
