Not every trend that supermodels wear down the catwalk translates to real life. Local shop owners tell us if some of the season's crazier looks are worth a second glance.

NAY

Carwash pleats: With a swish of the hip, this trend looks more sudsy than sultry. Skirts and dresses are taking on the look with thick pleats that create the same effect as going through a carwash. "I don't think it's going to stick, or if anything, it might be modified," says Mademoiselle owner Fadia Nemeh.

Way-up-there boots: Last season went from riding to over-the-knee. Now designers are pushing new heights with a boot that hits all the way up at the thigh. "They look stunning," says Fringe Boutique owner Dana Demetriou. "I've seen them with dresses, short skirts — some women wear them with shorts."

Furry handbags: Fall fashion is getting fuzzier. "Anything with a fur detail you can make really fun," says Sanity owner Isabel Pritchett. "As long as you don't take them too seriously and don't take yourself too seriously, and you kind of let that part of your outfit be what stands out."
