Lush Algerian ivy creeps toward the remaining letters of the Baldwin family sarcophagus. For more than a decade, local photographer Barney Taxel has been capturing these subtle signs of vitality in Lake View Cemetery. "The biggest surprise for anybody is how full of life it is on all levels — design, nature and atmosphere," he says. Available Nov. 1, Taxel's photo collection, The Lake View Cemetery ($62.95, University of Akron Press), reveals the cemetery's stunning architecture, diverse flora and rich history. His wife, Laura, penned thoughtful essays and gathered Plain Dealer articles to complement his striking images. "This is a project that will probably never end for me," Taxel says. "The work continues to call to me."
