All-Star Game 2019: Field Notes
We guide you through the stadium and some of the game's history.
Whether you’re watching from the couch or behind the plate, here’s everything you need to know about the 2019 All-Star Game.
Super Skippers: Alex Cora of the 2018 World Series and American League champion Boston Red Sox and Dave Roberts, an All-Star skipper in 2018, of the National League champion Los Angeles Dodgers manage this year’s teams. Former Yankees manager Casey Stengel managed the most All-Star Games with nine appearances.
8.69 Million: Number of TV viewers of the 2018 All-Star Game in Washington, D.C.
Warm-Up Club: Fans can find the 24 All-Star pitchers watching the game from these bullpens, with American League pitchers in the Indians’ home pen closest to the field.
150-by-300 Feet: Dimensions of the American flag held during the National Anthem. A Canadian flag of the same size is displayed during “O Canada.”
Throwin’ Shade: A home-field advantage comes in the form of the Indians’ shady third-base home dugout for the AL team. The Cleveland Celebrities and the AL Futures teams also sit here during the Celebrity Softball Game and the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game.
5 Gallons: Amount of paint used to create the All-Star Game logos.
All-Star Orators: Fox Sports broadcasters Joe Buck and John Smoltz and on-field reporters Ken Rosenthal and Tom Verducci team up for the fourth straight time. Buck has announced the game since 2001, when he took the reins from Bob Costas.
Deer In Headlights: The National Leaguers, World Celebrities and NL Futures get a squinty sunset view over Terminal Tower from this dugout, but at least they’re close to the Market Garden Brewery stand.
Evenly Matched: The National League looks to tie-up the all-time win totals this year in Cleveland. Since 1933, the American League has won 44 contests to the NL’s 43. Two games ended in ties.
Encore: If the Midsummer Classic goes to extra innings, both clubs start the 10th inning and all subsequent innings with a runner on second.
19: Most All-Star Game strikeouts, pitched by Los Angeles Dodger Don Drysdale, who pitched 19 1/3 innings over nine All-Star games, including five starts.
