There’s something sexy about a person in the know. For 21 years, La Cave du Vin has been Coventry’s overlooked gem, so being escorted down the staircase for the first time to the nondescript brown front door tingles the nerves. On the other side is a cozy-yet-spacious basement wine bar where time slips away. Lit by candles and string lights, the space is mysterious — dark enough for you to feel alone in the corner on a crowded night. Although La Cave offers about 250 craft beers and daily $5 wine by the glass specials, pop the cork on a bottle of Tour de Tourteau, a classic Bourdeaux blend that tastes much more expensive than it is. “We try to keep it pretty reasonable price-wise,” says general manager Jeff King, “while going out of our way to find better selections for those prices.” That’s like whispering sweet nothings to our pocketbook. 2785 Euclid Heights Blvd., Cleveland Heights, 216-932-6411, facebook.com/lacavecoventry Before: Stop at In the 216 boutique for paintings, T-shirts, trinkets and more from 145 regional artisans. Be sure to give Delly, the pup that mans (dogs?) the counter, a pat on the way out. 1854-A Coventry Road, Cleveland Heights, 216-862-4830, inthe216.com #Culture #Foodie #Moderate
