4 Ways To Spice Up Drive-In Experiences
Lifestyle blogger and Instagram influencer Daisha Olmeda helps us make movie night a blockbuster.
Keep cool. Getting to watch two movies for the price of one is a deal too good to pass up on, but for muggy July, August and September evenings, it can get quite steamy. Especially if you don’t want to have your car’s air conditioning running for four straight hours. Olmeda recommends bringing a cooler filled with homemade slushies. “I recently bought a blender, I feel like you could do that with anything," she says. "You can use Coca-Cola and make Coke slushies. Or you can use Capri Sun."
Pooling resources. One of the fun perks to watching a movie outdoors is that it allows you to get creative in the seating department. You can bring your favorite lawn chair that you use to sit around a campfire, or, as Olmeda says, you can even bring an inflatable pool. “You can put blankets and pillows inside it,” she says. “It’s like an air mattress but with walls.”
Come prepared. There are designated radio stations to hear the audio for the movie you’re watching on the big screen and speakers are positioned in-between parking spaces that play it as well. But if you’re sitting on your lawn chair (or in an inflatable pool in front of your car), the volume might be too muffled for you to hear. “If you don’t want to leave your car running or you’re outside, bring a cordless or battery powered radio,” Olmeda says. “I haven’t been to all of the [drive-ins], but I know a lot of the stuff is outdated.”
Home theater. There’s no place like home, so if you want to catch the latest new release on Netflix or Dinsey+, make a night of it by recreating the drive-in experience at home. “You can be a little more comfortable,” Olmeda says. If you’re outside, use a projector to project the movie on the back of your house or the side of your garage. “If you’re inside, maybe you set up the air mattress on the floor instead of just sitting on the couch,” Olmeda says. “Make it that outdoors experience even if you’re indoors.”
