Amazon Cleveland

Amazon is pushing a major project near Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.

Development | By Ken Prendergast, NEOTrans

A proposed light-industrial/warehouse development in Cleveland, off Rocky River Drive near Hopkins International Airport, has advanced quickly toward final approval by the city.

The Big Guy: The prospective tenant, according to two sources, is the e-commerce giant Amazon, which plans to lease a 234,000-square-foot structure.

On The Hunt: Locally, Amazon has been looking for a long time for a large facility, be it existing or new, near Hopkins Airport.

  • The lack of available large sites near the airport has complicated that search.

  • One site Amazon looked at was the former Ford auto plant on Snow Road that the Haslam Sports Group acquired last year for the new Cleveland Browns stadium.

  • Another location it looked at was the I-X Center, which was also to include a data center.

The Need: Nationally, Amazon has been working in recent years to establish a hierarchical network of air cargo distribution centers near commercial airports, serving as gateways to cities and regions.

Jill Vedaa | La Cave du Vin

Jill Vedaa creates a new food menu for La Cave du Vin.

Food & Drink | By Christina Rufo

At La Cave du Vin, the focus has long been on what’s in the glass. Now, with a new menu from Jill Vedaa, the food is taking center stage.

Debuting April 16, the rollout marks Vedaa’s first project since stepping into a leadership role with Buildings and Food, bringing one of the region’s most seasoned culinary voices into a space historically defined by wine.

A three-time James Beard Award semifinalist and former Salt+ chef-owner, Vedaa brings more than 30 years of experience shaping Cleveland’s dining scene. Since joining the group in December 2025, she’s introduced a more cohesive, chef-driven approach, transforming the food from a supporting player into an extension of the wine program.

Menu highlights include Vedaa’s signatures:

  • White bean puree with olives and toast;

  • Bacon-wrapped dates with goat cheese and spicy maple glaze; and

  • Crab roll with brown butter aioli, chive and tobiko.

The shift is subtle but significant, giving La Cave a clearer identity, one where the kitchen finally holds its own alongside the cellar.

Yesterday's Trivia Answer

What government agency started in the Williamson building in 1914 before getting its own Walker & Weeks-designed pink marble home on East Sixth Street in 1923?

From the Editor

I recently read a piece in the Wall Street Journal about how Cleveland's growing population is being housed in former department stores converted into apartments.

Funny enough, I live in one; the former W.T. Grant Building has been an apartment building for years now. I enjoy it more than normal apartment designs. I have high ceilings and giant windows that give me a great view of storms running off the lake into the city.
