Handcrafted Shopping Guide: Sick Sad Soap

Sick Sad Soap's Familiar Planchette soaps smell frighteningly good.

Know someone repping a spooky Wednesday Addams aesthetic year-round? They’ll love lathering up with this Familiar Planchette soap ($5) from Sick Sad Soap, purveyor of lather-ups with occult and horror themes like tombstones. Created by Diana Bringard and shaped like a Ouija board planchette decorated with black cats, the multicolored soap is scented with lavender, orange, patchouli, basil, peppermint and Roman chamomile. After a stint making and selling more conventional all-natural soaps at craft fairs, Bringard took a turn for the creepy. “I wanted to do something that was a little bit more me,” she says. “And make something weird and a little bit different.” While her vibe may have changed, the soap is vegan and she still tries to stay as natural as possible, hand-blending the lye, oils and glycerin that comprise each 1.5-ounce planchette. “It’s so much fun walking into somebody’s bathroom, going to wash your hands and seeing fun soap to use,” she says. 216-645-1440, instagram.com/sicksadsoap
