She doesn’t really care if you wear expensive name brands.” Photographer Julie White, owner of Jules White Photography in Mayfield Village, says those things don’t impress her. She also rarely poses her photography subjects, preferring them to be engaged in a natural activity. 

“I like to remind my families that this is not a fashion show. If that’s what you are looking for, we may not be the best fit. . I want you to be comfortable and I want your kids to be comfortable,” explains White, who was a successful commercial real estate professional 10  years ago before following her passion (and talent) for photography.

Clients adore White, respect her work and trust her to document the most important times of their family’s lives. Sure, there are weddings, graduations and birthdays. But it’s your baby holding her favorite blanket, you and your family enjoying a sunset, or grandkids kissing Grandpa, that count most to her. 

White also freely shares “secrets” for timeless photos. For example, she suggests neutral-colored clothing and  no messy patterns — let the faces be the focus . She will also put people in an intriguing environments or set scenes for natural emotional engagement, but lining them up and making them stare into her camera is not part of the plan. White will suggest a taking a walk , or playing a game that allows for natural connection. 

The 237-acre Orchard Hills Park in Chester Township, part of the Geauga Park District, is a favorite destination for White to capture a family’s uniqueness and personality. She also enjoys Edgewater Beach in Cleveland Metroparks’ Lakefront Reservation as a place where sand and water meet families, helping them relax and allowing her to take amazing photos. White also makes use of intriguing architecture in Downtown Cleveland and rooftops to snap those special images.

But pictures of newborns? The baby’s familiar home is her first choice for a photo shoot, although White does have a studio if a parent asks. A crying baby is  not problem, it offers an opportunity to take a photo of an intimate moment, caring for your baby. “You can’t hear a photo but hopefully you’ll feel it. ,” she says.
