Upon embarking on his 2019 tour, Peter Frampton shared with fans that he was diagnosed with inclusion body myositis, a chronic disorder causing muscle weakness. Thinking the tour would be his last, he braced fans for a goodbye.
Until it wasn’t. Realizing he was strong enough to tour, he kept going, recently selling out MGM Northfield this September on his Positively Thankful Tour. His ailments forced him to do his shows seated, but the music stayed the same.
On Saturday night, Frampton ended a drought lasting nearly 26 years. First eligible for induction in 1998, Frampton found success on the heels of over 500,000 fans that voted him for induction this year.
The precursor to his award was presented by longtime colleague Roger Daltrey of The Who.
“This guy’s voice takes his music to another level,” Daltrey said of Frampton. “It’s good on my ear. He’s got a sensitivity that matches his guitar playing. It comes from his heart and matches the smile on his face.”
Upon taking the stage for his induction, Frampton remained seated for his performance of “Do You Feel Like I Do” alongside country star Keith Urban, but the reverberating energy from their dueling guitars and Frampton’s iconic talk box brought fans to their feet.
“That’s what you call a rock star,” Daltrey exclaimed.

In his acceptance speech, Frampton shared his story of redemption, highlighting how lows in his career made the highs that much sweeter.
“My fall from grace was almost predetermined,” he said. “I now believe this was a necessity for me. There was a gift in all of this. I had time to realize what was most important to me. My family, my friends and my reinventing passion for guitar, always.”
