Land Creations Landscaping Inc. of Columbia Station broughtsome new concepts to its residential client in search of freshideas. The project, not just an aesthetic exercise, also addresseddrainage problems on the property. Instead of a simple patio, landscapers created an outdoor room. With the removal of anold outdoor deck and the introduction of an entire patio under acedar arbor, Land Creations established a simple look. Square-cutarbor edges provide the homeowners with the desired complementto their modern home. The view from the outdoor roominto the dining area, framed by the arbor, catches the moonlight, setting up a breathtaking scene while lush landscaping and acustom rock bubbler add an audio and visual backdrop for entertainingguests. A sitting area constructed with bricks runs at45-degree angles to provide the illusion of a much larger spaceand to define different areas of the space. A less formal, more natural-looking dining area uses Ohio toprock. Strategically placedplants help break up the appearance of a solid wall.

The Weidner Group of North Ridgeville helped its clientdiscover few obstacles are insurmountable. The large familyhad problems with the number of cars taking up space inthe driveway as well as the amount of shade in the space. Bycreating a single parking space, they found enough room fora cedar pergola, some hardscaping, bubble rock, a fire pit andsome glorious floral treatment. The pergola acts as a ceilingover the fire pit as well as adding interest to the area. A stonewall became a focal point.

The Weidner Group of North Ridgeville was contacted todesign a fireplace that would work in its client's existinglarge, cement patio space. The area not only had a small porcharea with a high step but also had a grill that was away fromthe porch, making it difficult to access in winter months. A cedarpergola was installed. New pavers, knee walls and columnswere added. A porch extension affords easier grill access, regardlessof the season. Cutting away concrete along the houseallowed for planting beds while the addition of walls and stepsfinish off the total look.

Land Creations Landscaping Inc. of Columbia Station determined, because of the size and scale of its client's vastbrick home, a single, dynamic focus was important. With thatin mind, a limestone water sculpture was introduced. A courtyard, requiring 200 tons of base under a 1,600-square-footpatio, was next. From the center of the courtyard come thesounds of cascading water. Once in view, the water sculpturedraws the viewer's eye to the landscape and ultimately back tothe house, giving the home the attention it deserves.

The hardscapeportion alone included the extension of the masonry retainingwall and steps, addition of a multi-level deck and railing, introduction of a fire pit and masonry barbeque area, layout andpreparation for stamped concrete plus coordination with theswimming pool/spa contractor. Vizmeg's attention to detail isapparent with the decision to incorporate the same brick used inthe residence and in the hardscape.
