The Engage Cleveland president feels more connected to her town after joining its early childhood parent teacher association.
Smiling faces, beeping horns, decorated bikes and the sweet smell of summer are just a few of the reasons why I love Heritage Days.During the first weekend of August, the community comes alive with a variety of events. It kicks off with a large parade. My little ones love decorating their bikes with balloons and streamers in their favorite colors and parading through town with their best buds for the kids’ bike parade.
The memorable weekend culminates with a breakfast hosted on the picturesque covered bridge that is the centerpiece of the community.The weekend reminds me how much fun can happen in a small town. It’s filled with smiles and laughter. Seeing the happiness on my daughters’ faces reminds me that this tiny West Side suburb was the right place to call home.
Ashely Basile Oeken is the president of Engage Cleveland, a community engagement organization for young professionals. She has lived with her husband in Olmsted Township for seven years, where they also welcomed two daughters into their family.
