Michelle Hauck moved with her husband, Chris, into a two-story, four-bedroom colonial in 2004. A year later, she gave birth to her son, Julian. As the owner of the 10th house on her street in Bentley Park, a quaint residential development just 1 mile south of Interstate 90 and the Avon Commons shopping center, Hauck has witnessed Avon’s growth from rural farmland to a booming community over the last 12 years. The promise of an up-and-coming neighborhood is what originally attracted the 46-year-old marketing manager to this year’s No. 1 suburb.
We knew we were moving into an area that would be young and vibrant and just have a lot to offer going forward.
The land used to be a tree farm, and it’s apparently very fertile because I was the fifth woman on my block to get pregnant around the same time. All five of us had boys.
There are new things being built almost daily. At the same time, I really like the fact that there are still wide-open spaces.
I’m attracted to going to Target and Heinen’s, but the nice thing about Avon is that you can have both of those things — there’s lots of local businesses to support as well as the larger stores for convenience and pricing.
The Tree House Gallery and Tea Room is a cute little colonial house in the Shoppes of Olde Avon Village. They have all sorts of collectibles, woodworking and folk art.
We always have a party in the summer, and we get
together at Halloween after trick-or-treat is over and Thanksgiving
night after all the relatives have left.
We go to Holy Trinity Parish. We liked the fact that every Sunday the place was packed.
Even though the community is growing by leaps and bounds, they actually can’t change or expand the size of the church, [because] it’s the oldest church in the Cleveland diocese.
Baseball is really big in Avon.
My son started when he was 4 years old. Members of the high school are actually volunteer coaches. Every spring they have an opening day parade where the community comes out and they line Detroit Road.
Cleveland Clinic just built their hospital right off of I-90. If the Cleveland Clinic is investing in the community, that shows the community is stable and solid.
