Concord Township
For empty nesters who raised their children in Eastlake and Mentor, Concord is a quiet alternative to those higher traffic towns. Home to Lake Metroparks’ 932-acre Girdled Road Reservation and the northern tip of Geauga County’s Whitlam Woods, it also offers nature lovers easy access to nearby Holden Arboretum and Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park and Headlands State Park. Likewise golfers are just a chip shot away from the town’s challenging courses at Quail Hollow Resort and Little Mountain Country Club. And the momentum only continues to grow with plans for a future mixed-use town center and residential developments east of the state Route 44 corridor.
Hinckley Township
Empty nesters who enjoy the outdoors will find plenty of ways to stay active in Hinckley Township. The new Great Hunt Outfitters offers lessons in hunting and archery, while the Cleveland Metroparks are a rich resource for bird-watching — especially during the annual Buzzard Day celebration in the Hinckley Reservation. With extra time to leisurely relax by the water, the Metroparks’ Hinckley Lake Boathouse is great for kayaking, paddleboarding, canoeing and fishing. While houses here are often situated on 2 or more acres, the new Hinckley Reserve at Walden Pond development has more modern homes on smaller lots that require less upkeep.
