Dust off those JNCO jeans (we both know you’ve got ’em), make sure that flannel is tied tight around your waist and get ready to party like it’s the edge of 1999. The high-energy cover band Flannel Planet, which rocks out with its interpretations of classic hits from bands such as Green Day, 311, Nirvana, the Backstreet Boys, Shaggy and more, is so good, you’ll swear you can actually smell the teen spirit. The band started in 2016 when singer and guitarist Rob Covert realized there was a bit of a gap in Cleveland’s cover band scene.
“There really aren’t any ’90s bands that cover the whole gamut,” he says. “I took that idea and ran with it.” Covert enlisted real ’90s rocker David Hawes, who played bass in British alternative band Catherine Wheel, along with lead guitarist Eric Mitchell and drummer Jeremy Miller. And while the band’s four-hour shows are enough to make you get jiggy wit’ it, you better come with your A-game. Aside from laying down a sick bass line, Hawes peppers the crowd with ’90s trivia questions during breaks. “People can win free shots from the bar,” says Covert. “We make it fun with some pageantry.” 440-228-4807, flannelplanetband.com
