27 Club Coffee’s The Joker Cocktail
As a tribute to Heath Ledger and the Joker himself, 27 Club Coffee created a drink based on the villain’s colors. Preparation for The Joker ($14) begins by infusing tequila with butterfly pea flowers to turn the liquor purple. As the liqour is poured on top, the muddled kiwi and lemon juice at the bottom of the glass gives the drink its green color. “It’s very popular because people love the color of it,” says general manager Troy Nethken. 1215 W. 10th St., Cleveland, 216-727-0027, 27clubcoffee.com
Craft Social’s Pea Flower Cocktail
Changing from a dark purple to a deep pink, the Pea Flower Power cocktail ($12) at Craft Social is a vibrant, vodka-based drink that is the closest thing to sipping on a rainbow. After the blue butterfly pea powder tea is made, vodka, simple syrup and lemonade are added to balance out the acidity and offset the sweetness. “This drink is perfect for people who like slightly sweet, slightly fruity vodka drinks,” says owner Joel Testa. 1864 Front St., Suite G, Cuyahoga Falls, 330-805-2826, craftsocialbar.com
The Last Page’s Thai Butterfly Cocktail
Full of flavor and health benefits, the Thai Butterfly cocktail ($15) is a win-win. Made with Bacardi Ocho, orgeat, orange water, muddled pineapple and lemon juice, this tiki-style drink gets an extra boost from the butterfly pea flower tea. When added, the South Asian flower changes the cocktail from blue to purple. “It’s a beachy drink that makes you want to sit in French Polynesia,” says beverage director Angelica Sbai. 100 Park Ave., Suite 128, Beachwood, 216-465-1008, thelastpagerestaurant.com
