The Avo-Rita ($13) at Avo Modern Mexican is every avocado lover’s dream.
Made with fresh avocado, a splash of pineapple juice and a punch of jalapeno flavor, the Avo-Rita is a Mexican-inspired cocktail that is sure to surprise anyone who tries it.
“A lot of people are hesitant to try the drink,” says owner Julie Mesenburg. “When people do order it, they are wowed by it and come back for it.”
Avo Modern Mexican starts by gently muddling a scoop of fresh avocado with agave and a couple slices of jalapeno to balance the sweetness with a slight kick.
Espolon Blanco tequila, Cointreau (an orange-flavored liqueur), pineapple juice and margarita mix are added before the drink gets a sturdy shake to break down the avocado. The cocktail is then strained over ice into a glass with a lime-salt rim.
“The avocado actually adds a really nice texture to the drink,” Mesenburg says. “The pineapple complements the other citrus flavors in the drink very well.”
The cocktail ties in perfectly with the avocado-themed menu and is a perfect addition to Avo’s house-made guacamole.
