We love the choose-your-own-adventure nature of an amazing charcuterie board. So do the folks at Astoria Cafe & Market, who offer 12 different meat and cheese variations on their dinner menu. It makes perfect sense then that chef Cory Kobrinski would want something just as delicious for the Gordon Square Arts District location’s brunch offering.
The brunch board ($17) doesn’t disappoint with a rotating sampling of sweet and savory meats, cheese, crackers and house-made jams. A recent highlight of the board? Thin slices of Iberico de Bellota pork, which come from black pigs raised in Spain.
“They’re basically on an all acorn diet,” says Kobrinski, “which in turn enhances the flavor of the fatness of the pig.” While many of the items are imported from Europe, such as an Italian prosciutto infused with rosemary and a dry-cured chorizo, Kobrinski likes to spotlight local products as often as he can.
Look for a mustard from Old Brooklyn Cheese Co. this fall. Pair it with double-smoked cured bacon, a quail egg and a schmear of house-made apple cider chevre on a crostini. “We’re hitting every flavor palate you need,” he says. 5417 Detroit Ave., Cleveland, 216-266-0834, astoriacafemarket.com
