Yianni Sarris is trying to start an acai revolution in Cleveland. In April, Sarris launched Cleveland Acai, a health food truck specializing in acai bowls, a thick smoothie bowl that features pureed acai, a small black berry that grows in Brazil and parts of Hawaii.
The humble fruit is full of antioxidants, may improve cholesterol, boost brain function and can possibly stop cancer cells from forming — making it a win-win for health-conscious Clevelanders. While Cleveland Acai’s menu only has three options, they work perfectly.
The O.G. Bowl ($11) is great for anyone looking to experience acai in its fullest form, as the crushed berries are topped with banana, strawberries, blueberries, organic granola and honey. The Party Bowl ($13) expands upon that base, adding peanut butter, strawberries, coconut, hemp seeds and chia seeds, while the Choco Bowl ($12) adds Nutella and chocolate chips — the perfect healthy grab-and-go snack.
“I really pride myself on having a healthy food truck,” Sarris says. “A lot of people have acai, but it’s a side dish and it’s usually sorbet. We pride ourselves on having the freshest acai.” instagram.com/clevelandacai
