Move aside spiced bagels. Kindred Spirit is serving up a sweet and savory play on French toast, with its popular everything pistachio French toast ($8).
Dennis Davis, executive chef at Kindred Spirit, easily goes through five loaves every weekend brunch to fill orders.
“It’s definitely something where you take small bites of it and you’re always going back for another piece,” says Davis.
Made from a base of Orlando Baking Co. sourdough bread for a consistent twang, the batter is made in-house with a hint of Chardon maple flavoring.
The French toast is then caramelized to a finicky perfection after some prodding and poking, switching and flipping.
The toast is then smeared with a honey-sweetened cream cheese and a spice layer, which includes various savory ingredients such as crushed pistachios, salt, garlic powder, poppy seeds and sesame.
