We’re not really sure if Cool Critters are meant to be animals, aliens or monsters. Regardless, we find the handmade otherworldly creatures to be cute and cuddly.
Made with faux fur, felt and hand-painted eyes, the stuffed animals come in various sizes, colors and designs, such as the Shaggy Bright Green Nugget ($30), which features green faux fur, green felt ears and an adorable felt purple tongue.
“They can be plush toys, they can be couch companions,” says creator Jessica Sheeran. “They can be best friends, they can be pet toys, decorative pillows — almost anything you want them to be.”
Sheeran, who started creating the critters back in 2008, loves to experiment by adding fun details such as a unicorn horn or attaching arms to turn a creation into a fuzzy cacti. She even does custom orders ranging from Hulk Hogan to Chewbacca.
“I love watching people interact with them. With children, I see their eyes light up and they just immediately hug a critter,” she says. “But it’s also so cool to see the skeptical adult, kind of like looking out of the corner of their eye, kind of grinning a little bit and nodding.” instagram.com/shopcoolcritters
