Cheez-Its are on the “don’t buy list” for Kili Watson-Samad, but that doesn’t stop her from making the coveted cracker as earrings. Since 2017, the owner of My Turquoise Kitten has been “cooking” her polymer clay food charms. Her more than 250 options ($12-$40) include cheese-dripping nachos, crinkled eggroll wrappers and chicken noodle soup filled to the brim.
Watson-Samad handmakes every piece, using Sculpey Premo clay for dishes, resin for broth and blending clays for color. She creates realistic grooves and notch details with a toothbrush and toothpick. “As someone who appreciates the culinary art — the edible kind — I don’t want to do that any type of disservice,” Watson-Samad says. 216-288-5496, shopmytk.com
