We’ve been spending a lot more time at home lately. And with that comes the need to refresh and revive our spaces.
Lauren HB Studio‘s geometric vases ($25-$200) help give us that pop of color and modern vibe we’re going for with their handcrafted shapes and sizes, and shades of dark blues, seafoam green and classic white.
Owner Lauren Herzak-Bauman, who studied sculpture and ceramics in undergrad and grad school, loves that a vase brings presence to whatever room you put it in and serves as a small sculpture on its own.
“I think a vase is a really evocative form,” she says. “The vase itself is one of those pieces that end up sitting empty a lot. A coffee cup gets used quite often and goes back in the cupboard. But a vase, unless it’s holding flowers, isn’t used all that often. And I think that’s what kind of makes it really interesting to people that it’s this really beautiful object that has function, but it also really serves as just being a beautiful object.”
For her designs, she takes inspiration from geometry that she finds in nature and from the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi. “It’s about really seeing beauty in the imperfections,” she says. “My pieces are very geometric, but they’re like an organic geometry. All of the angles [of the original molds] are hand cut. So that gives it sort of that organic feel.” laurenhbstudio.com
