Nut milk
For those of us with a weak tolerance to milk, just finding a mate for our morning cereal bowl can be a waking nightmare. Enter forty.one, makers of our dairy alternative dream. Owner and creator Hunter Harlor blends small batches of all-natural almond milk in his Ohio City kitchen and sells the creamy concoction at local farmers markets. He steeps soaked, ground almonds in water and strains out the solids to make his plain almond milk. Harlor says his focus is on creating and distributing whole vegan nut milks with quality you won't often find at the supermarket. "We wanted to give an alternative for people who wanted something a little bit cleaner and a little easier to digest," he says. The plain almond milk, which Harlor has dubbed his "simple" flavor, is available by the quart for $7. Basic almond milk put you back to sleep? Forty.one will awaken your taste buds with inventive, all-natural flavors such as lavender vanilla, chocolate hazelnut and butternut spice - a local fall favorite. facebook.com/ohiocity41
